Just under a month to go...

Well...the whirlwind rush of kit buying, bike maintenance and general expense seems to be slowing down. The test ride on the 21st went very smoothly, and already a routine for loading panniers and connecting radios seems to be taking shape. Thanks to the superb project management (!) we've got all the equipment we need, the bikes are in as good condition as they'll be and we're happy with the riding gear. Bar a few minor tasks, the bikes are ready to go! The last thing we have to sort out is the paperwork - we both have the crucial items (valid passports, vaccination cards, driving permits etc.) - but we need a ton of passport-size photos, copies of the registration documents, copies of travel insurance etc etc. Sounds like a fun evening scanning it all in... The next major milestone is getting the bikes picked up on the 15th June. We're awaiting final confirmation on the shipping - it doesn't seem to be the most exact of sciences. Somewhat concerning, as without the bikes we're pretty much stuck...but the shipping agent is apparently very good, so I guess we wait and see. The one-way London-LA flights are booked and confirmed for the 22nd June, just under a week after the bikes are (hopefully) picked up and shipped. Looks like we might, assuming (!) everything goes to plan, get away on time. We have a £50 bet riding on us leaving in June...and we're hoping to collect it :-)
